*****A BURNING PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR ALL OUTDOOR BURNING*****
You can obtain a permit, free of charge, by calling the fire station at (517) 627-1157. From the main menu press 3 and listen to the short message that follows.
If wind and weather conditions are favorable for burning, you will be asked to leave your name, address, telephone number, and the type of fire you will be having.
Your permit is issued automatically when you leave your information and you can begin burning immediately. In the event of unfavorable conditions,
you will be notified when you press 3 that burning has been suspended for the day.
Permits are issued daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and are VALID FOR THAT DAY ONLY!!! Late night campfires may extend into the early morning hours; however, fires must be attended at all times and must be fully extinguished before leaving the area. Permits may be revoked at any time if a fire is deemed to be a nuisance or hazardous to others.
Campfires (City and Township)
Recreational fires may be on the ground or in a portable fire pit and should be a safe distance from any structure. Burning is limited to natural wood products only. Construction materials, grass, and leaves are not allowed. For additional conditions and regulations, please refer to your local burning ordinance.
Brush Fires (Township Only)
Brush and other yard waste fires should not be located near a roadway, structure, or property line.
The burning of petroleum based products, shingles, tires, plastics, or treated construction material is not allowed.
A permit is not required in the township for fires enclosed in a metal or masonry container with holes no larger then 3/4".
