The Grand Ledge Area Fire Department is a combination department consisting of 10 career staff supplemented by approximately 20 volunteers. The department is staffed 24 hours a day with three or four personnel available to immediately respond. When additional personnel are needed the volunteers respond. The department provides fire and emergency medical services, as well as community fire prevention and safety training.
In the event of a medical emergency, the primary ambulance is an advanced life support unit staffed with a paramedic. Additional emergency medical services are provided at the advanced life support, basic life support, and medical first responder levels based on the current call volume and the availability of personnel.
